Robert Desnos meets Youki while the latter is still married to the painter Tsugouharu Foujita. He becomes the couple's friend and very quickly proclaims his love for the beauty. In 1930, Youki became Desnos' companion and muse. They never left each other until 1944, when the poet was arrested and died a year later in the Terezin concentration camp, despite multiple attempts by Youki to free him.
